Up Close and Facebook

It's an ongoing challenge to show people what my paintings really look like via the internet, especially when a 2'x2' painting is reduced to fit on a laptop screen. Things become muddled. It was a little easier when I was focusing on printmaking and surface design. I've been making an effort to add more details from the paintings I post on my website. Recently I set up a public Facebook page for my art, because quite frankly, I like Facebook and it's easy to update. Another reason is that recently I've had quite a few friend requests on my personal profile from people who know my art but don't know me personally. This is fine and I don't discourage it, but I feel like these people are probably disappointed because I don't really put art updates on my personal page (but I do post things about my laundry and how many hot dogs I've eaten and other such garbage). If you have a Facebook account and you want to flaunt your good taste in art to your unenlightened friends, become a fan!

Happy new year!

My new year is not going quite as smoothly as I'd hoped, but other than a frost-nipped ear I don't have anything to complain about. I've totally been making up for it by complaining about my frost-nipped ear to everyone I know, though.

The opening for my show is Friday, January 15th from 5-9pm (not January 16th like I said in my last post).

Sketches From India + Announcements

I did a little bit of painting and ink drawing in India, but for various reasons I wasn't able to set up a painting space for more than a couple of hours at a time. Sketching was always possible and easy to keep away from the dachshunds and their wayward tongues. Okay, that's not entirely true. A few of these sketches actually have big areas of dried dachshund slobber, but I'm not selling them, so whatever. I was also totally obsessed with the drawings of Chris Hipkiss at the time so graphite was a natural choice.

I like how they turned out, and they moved my paintings in a direction that I think is good.

Mary Louise Schumacher of the Journal Sentinel reviewed When Animals Talk and described my paintings as "affordable". Ha ha, awesome! It's true, though. My paintings are priced to entice. The review is located here.

Last but definitely not least, MY SHOW IS OPENING ON JANUARY 16th!(***EDIT I'm not sure why I typed 16th, it actually opens on the 15th (a Friday)***) !! It's at the wonderful Tory Folliard Gallery in Milwaukee. I also have my own page on their website now. Hell yeah!

Life is feeling pretty good. I miss my man, but I have a temporary cat and giant sleep-in studio and a light-up polar bear and a never-ending supply of baked goods. What else could I ask for?
