I've heard of giants with "frakes" for hands. Are you sure?

would you mind explaining what a rubylith cut is?

thanks so much,

Hi Janice!

The (sort of) short answer is that rubylith is a two layered sheet of transparent plastic. One layer is completely clear, and the other layer is tinted red. With an Exacto blade you are able to cut a design out of the red layer while leaving the clear layer intact. I'm told that in the old days, before photo emulsion, the rubylith was then fused to the screen, but these days it's much easier to just coat a screen with photo emulsion, and use the rubylith on the exposure unit to block out the design. Since the rubylith film is red, it will filter out the UV rays and the emulsion won't harden wherever the rubylith is (even though it is not opaque). Rubylith is good for crisp, clean edges and a paper-cut type feel. Maybe I'll do a "how-to" on my blog in the future.
